Three types of office and kitchen furniture were developed making explicit use of extruded aluminum. Shunji Yamanaka was asked by clients Riken Yamamoto (architect) and SUS (aluminum furniture manufacturer) in 2003 to design furniture to be used in small home offices. Inspired by new aluminum architectural honeycomb structure and traditional Japanese roof tiles, an office chair, an office table, and a kitchen table with visible extruded aluminum components were developed, maximizing the potential of the inexpensive structural elements as aesthetic pieces. The office furniture have been in production since September 2003.
